This database allows to search in the following categories: film, person, year, archive, country and keywords.

Please select a categorie before entering the search word.

For all categories applies:

1. All entries have to be made with character set ISO-8859-1. If you want to search for words containing characters not belonging to ISO-8859-1, enter only those parts of the word that do not contain special characters.
2. Capitalization is ignored.
3. To view all entries of one category (all registered films or all registred archives), select the desired category and start the search without entering a search word.

Search for films:
Select the category Film. Enter the desired title, click "Go!".
If you do not know the exact title , you can also search for part of the title, provided the words follow each other directly.
Example: the entry "all quiet" will also lead to "All Quiet on the western Front" as does "western front". The entry "quiet western" will not lead to a result.
In case the original title is unknown, the international title is given in brackets.

Search for persons:
Select the category Person. Enter the first and last name (in this order) of the desired person. Click "Go!".
If you do not know the exact name, search for a part of the name.
Example: the entry "Law" leads to a list containing "Jude Law", "Thomas Edward Lawrence", and "John Howard Lawson".
If you enter a series of characters with one or more blanks, the last part will be interpreted as the last name, all other parts as first names.

Search for a year:
Select the category Year. Enter the year you are looking for with four digits, click "Go!".

Search for a war:
Select the category War. Enter the name of the war, click "Go!".
If you do not know the exact term, search for a part of the term.
Example: the entry "world" leads to a list containing "First World War", "Second World War", and "Third World War".
Select the desired entry to receive an abstract on the historical events as well as a list of films dealing with this particular conflict.

Search for archives:
Select the category Archive. Enter the name of the desired archive, click "Go!".
If you do not know the correct name, search for a part of the name.
Example: the entry "cin" leads to a list containing "El Instituto de la Cinematografìa y de las Artes Visuales", "Israel Film Archive - Jerusalem Cinematheque", and "Cinemathèque Royale de Belgique - Koninklijk Belgisch Filmarchief".
Click on the desired entry to receive information on this particular archive as well as a list of all films available in this archive, if registered in this database.

Search for a country:
Select the category Country. Enter the name of the desired country, click "Go!".
If you do not know the correct name or spelling, the database allows to search for a part of name.
Example: the entry "al" leads to list with the following choices: "Albania", "Algeria" but also "Italia".

Search for a keyword:
All films registered in this database are indexed with film specific keywords or keywords refering to particular motives or themes.
Example: select the keyword "partisans" to receive a list of films discribing partisans.
